GlobalX CEO and Vinnies ambassador Peter Maloney says homelessness is a complex issue; the result of many different social, economic and health-related factors.

GlobalX CEO and Vinnies ambassador Peter Maloney has urged Australians to dig deep and join the fight against homelessness, by donating to the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

The annual CEO Sleepout will take place this week on June 21, the winter solstice, across the country and is set to raise more than $6 million.

Now in its 10th year, the Vinnie's CEO Sleepout has gathered hundreds of Australia's top executives and government leaders over the years to sleep out in the elements for one night.

Mr Maloney said being homeless was not a choice but a complex issue and the result of many social, economic and health-related factors.

"The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data shows there are more than 115,000 people are homeless in Australia at any given time, a number which has grown 14 per cent in the five years to 2016," Mr Maloney said.

"These are extremely worrying numbers and it is evident we need more resources and help to combat Australia's biggest social issue.

"It's easy to forget in our daily lives that homelessness is an issue, but as a community we need to support one another and combat the issue of homelessness."

Vinnies Queensland CEO Peter Maher said it was appalling that we are one of the wealthiest countries in the world and people are still homeless.

Mr Maher urged anyone to consider joining the fundraising effort in the lead up to the event on June 21.

"It doesn't matter how small your donations are—$5 or $10 will go towards making a difference for the important cause."
