The Victorian Government’s newly-introduced vacant residential tax is designed to ease Melbourne’s current rental crisis.
Under new legislation which took effect 1 January 2018, property owners in 16 inner and middle Melbourne suburbs are now required to notify, and pay tax to the government if their residence has been unoccupied for more than six months in the preceding year.
