GlobalX has proudly sponsored ‘Disrupting Law’ events around Australia this month, bringing together tertiary students and young professionals from across all disciplines to create, develop and pitch a new technology idea that could transform the legal industry.
The 54-hour hackathon events, which were held in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia, were organised by not-for-profit organisation The Legal Forecast.
GlobalX’s sponsorship is part of its ongoing support for The Legal Forecast, and commitment to driving innovation in the legal industry.
GlobalX CEO Peter Maloney said the events offered an unparalleled opportunity for university students and future law leaders to spark new ideas, build professional connections and pitch their ideas to industry experts.
“It’s an honour to have the opportunity to support the next generation of innovators, and I’m delighted that we can assist The Legal Forecast with offering a truly unique experience to students across Australia,” Mr Maloney said.
“I am looking forward to judging finalists’ entries and assisting with the selection of the national winner over the next few months – it will undoubtedly be a tough decision for me and the rest of the panel, considering the impressive talent we have already seen at the state competitions.
“It’s exciting to see law firms also getting involved with the event to mentor the teams of students and shows that there is a bright future ahead for the ever-changing legal landscape.”
GlobalX Chief Information Officer David Hobley said GlobalX was providing the first-place prize of a MacBook Pro to the national winner, as well as two paid internships at GlobalX to outstanding students with a background in software development.
“We are looking forward to soon welcoming our internship winners, Will White and Lakshya Mital, to our Brisbane and Melbourne offices.
“They will have the opportunity to work with GlobalX’s award-winning software development teams and get hands-on experience in developing innovative solutions that increase productivity and efficiency for our clients.
“In the face of tough competition, their exceptional skills stood out to us, and I’m sure that they will make a valuable contribution to GlobalX during their time with us.”
The Disrupting Law national winner, which is decided by the judging panel, and the Disrupting Law Peoples’ Choice Winner, which is decided by the public’s votes, will both be announced in February 2020.
