GlobalX repivots Verification of Identity offering to cater for social distancing measures

Legal technology provider GlobalX has launched a new Verification of Identity (VOI) online platform IDSecure VirtualVOI in response to practitioners’ demand for a safer alternative to conducting face-to-face in-person VOI of their clients.

In line with Australian Registrars National Electronic Conveyancing Council (ARNECC) response to COVID-19 to recently relaxing traditional physical in-person VOI requirements, IDSecure VirtualVOI has been created to deliver a robust and secure option in the current climate.

VirtualVOI is the latest addition to IDSecure’s suite of award-winning services that securely facilitates online VOI meetings. The remote solution uses facial biometric verification technology to compare facial features of a client photograph against clients’ identity documents, delivering an efficient and powerful virtual alternative as more firms move to working from home conditions to comply with social distancing measures.

The technology also enables practitioners to verify the client’s identity documents against government sources using Document Verification Services (DVS) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) of document data.

GlobalX CEO Peter Maloney is thrilled to launch this tool to legal and conveyancing practitioners seeking alternatives for the way they conduct their VOIs.

“With many firms facing reduced capability to meet with their clients due to working from home and social distancing rules, we made the decision to repivot our VOI offering to give practitioners an online alternative that is still effective and secure in verifying the identity of their clients.

“It’s important that our clients still meet their VOI obligations for every transaction but are doing so safely and efficiently.” Mr Maloney said.

“Whilst we have always strongly encouraged practitioners to meet the VOI Standard, current circumstances have by default introduced video technology alternatives as measures that may be considered as “reasonable steps” and that Subscribers might like to use such options.

“As usual, evidence supporting the reasonable steps taken to verify the client’s identity must be retained by the Subscriber under the Model Participation Rule 6.6(d).” Mr Maloney said.

VirtualVOI bolsters IDSecure’s already strong full suite VOI offering of the IDSecure VOI App which many practitioners are still using while exercising safe social distancing measures.

VirtualVOI is now available to all GlobalX Search clients. New clients can sign up to a GlobalX Search account by contacting voi@globalx.com.au or calling 1300 885 662.
